Hello all,

I have a Windows 2003 SP1 server that is constatly (every 15 seconds or so)
throwing the following error in the logs.

Event id 333:

"An I/O operation initiated by the Registry failed unrecoverably. The
Registry could not read in, or write out, or flush, one of the files that
contain the system's image of the Registry."

Microsoft in it's usual helpfulness, tells me that there is no information
available regarding this. I think that if the system is going to log it,
there should be some helpful information about it somewhere.

Anything you can tell me that might help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike Deering

Have you tried using filemon from sysinternals? It's a free utility
that will log all file I/O attempts.

http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/Filemon.html

It may give you an indication of which process is having trouble with
which file and then you'll have something else to go on.

A quick Google also turned up this page:

I will assume you have already tried this but I thought I might mention it
just in case. I had a very similar issue this week. (I suspect an update but
do not know for sure what caused it.) Our machine (File and IIS server)
"froze up" (was unreachable via Remote Desktop and the console was also
non-responsive.)

We also had the same issue last week on another machine (SQL box).

So far, A reboot has "fixed" both issues. No more errors and no more freeze
ups. I am always suspicious of "reboot fixes" but sometimes they just get
"tongue tied" I guess.

Anyway, ours are production machines so we almost nerver reboot. If you are
in the same boat, you might try it if you can get them off line. If you have
already tried it, then I am worried about mine !!!!

Regards and good luck,
Mike
